Raiders topple Warsaw 47-0

Hartford tallies five touchdowns!

Matt Hartford had a game to remember this past Friday night versus the Warsaw Tigers. His name literally filled up the stat sheet. In the contest, Hartford the Raiders’ starting quarterback, scored on runs of 4, 21, 1 and 9 yards. Incredibly, these four TD runs were his only rushing attempts in the game. Hartford also had a 5-yard touchdown pass to Christian Hallett as time expired in the 1st half. If those numbers were not impressive enough, Matt Hartford scored his final TD by way of an exciting 45-yard pass interception and return. Hartford also kicked five extra-points which gave him 35 of the Raiders’ 47 points on the night. It was truly a remarkable performance for the Raider signal caller.

The Raiders dominated the host Tigers as the Cal-Mum offense rolled up 317 rushing yards. The Raider offense controlled the contest to the tune of 21 first downs to Warsaw’s 6.  The Raiders did call off the dogs for the 2nd half after bolting to a comfortable 34 to 0 halftime lead.

Jon Cappotelli had a solid rushing night for the Raiders, accounting for 142-yards in 21 carries. Colin Callan, subbing for an injured Madison Suhr, rushed for 63-yards in nine carries including a 12-yard touchdown run. Christian Hallett was Hartford’s go-to guy, when the Raiders needed a pass completion. Hallett had four receptions including the 5-yard touchdown reception. On the defensive side of the ball Solomon Gominiak was the Raiders’ leading tackler with 7, followed by Mike Nevinger with his 6.5 tackles.

The Raider defense was stout as the Warsaw Tiger had a tough night rushing the ball. The Tiger coming could only muster 71-yards of rushing offense. Tyler Boise was a bright spot for the Tiger offense as he did managed 32-yards in just five carries. The Tiger defense, though overmatched, played hard all night. Zach Renyold and Jory Pointkowski accounted for 9.5 tackles apiece, with six of Pointkowski’s tackles being solos.

The Raiders are back in action against the York Golden Knights for a rare Saturday night contest. Game time at the York Central School, in Retsof, is slated for 7:30 p.m.
